The Discovery of Nagele

On Saturday, March 14, and Sunday, March 15, the very first Heritage Spectacle Flevoland took place. During a theatrical discovery tour through Nagele, visitors were introduced to remarkable figures from the past, such as Gerrit Rietveld, Mien Ruys, and Aldo van Eyck. These designers played a major role in the creation of the village in the 1950s.

A Village Built as an Experiment

Nagele was designed according to the principles of the New Building: light, air, and space. The village was a bold experiment, unique in the Netherlands and far beyond. To this day, the design attracts international visitors. As one of the designers once put it: Nagele is an attempt to create a village as a single piece.

Why the Heritage Spectacle Exists

BOEi launched the Heritage Spectacle to connect cultural creators with special heritage locations. This creates new audiences for culture and teaches residents of Flevoland more about their own history. After Nagele, there will also be an edition in Emmeloord on April 17 and 18. There, too, the story of Flevoland will take center stage.

Collaboration and Opportunities for Creators

The Heritage Spectacle Flevoland is an initiative by BOEi, supported by the Province of Flevoland and the VriendenLoterij. Cultural creators have the opportunity to develop new performances and breathe new life into vacant heritage sites. The performances are intentionally accessible and affordable, so that everyone can enjoy them.
