On the night from Friday to Saturday, the letters WIJ FLEVOLAND on Urk were vandalized. The letters, recently placed as part of 40 years of Flevoland, are intended as a positive landmark for Flevolanders. It is disappointing that something representing connection was damaged in this way. Vandalism is unacceptable and the province is filing a report of the vandalism.
Because there are loose and damaged parts, we will remove the letters as soon as possible to prevent dangerous situations. After this weekend, we will investigate what is needed for repair or replacement. We can only say more about the future of the traveling letters at a later time.
The vandalism is disgraceful, but we continue to commit ourselves to a Flevoland we can be proud of.
