Roadworks on the N348 between Gorssel and Zutphen from 30 March
From 30 March to 15 May 2026, we will be carrying out roadworks on the N348 between Gorssel and Zutphen. The road will be closed during this period. Traffic will need to follow significant diversion routes.
We urge road users to adhere to the diversion routes, avoid using shortcuts, and follow the signs and instructions from traffic controllers.
Try-out action: 2 weeks free on an e-bike
People who normally commute by car will need to account for significant detours. The cycle path between Gorssel and Eefde will remain open, making it a good opportunity to try cycling to work. Why not give an e-bike, speed pedelec or e-cargo bike a go? You can try one for free for two weeks. This action runs from 2 March to 10 May 2026. For more information, visit E-bike try-out action.
What will change?
From Gorssel up to and including the junction with the Quatre Brasweg, we will be implementing measures to make the road and adjacent cycle path safer and improve traffic flow. After the roadworks, a maximum speed limit of 60 km/h will apply to the entire N348 between Gorssel and Eefde. This is possible because we already implemented these measures in October 2025 on the other section of the N348 between the Quatre Brasweg and the roundabout near Eefde.
On the section between Eefde and Zutphen, we will only be resurfacing the asphalt.
Planning
- From Monday 30 March to Friday 1 May, roadworks will take place from Gorssel up to and including the junction with the Quatre Brasweg.
- From Monday 4 May to Friday 15 May, roadworks will take place from the roundabout near Eefde to Zutphen.
Closure between Gorssel and Eefde for 7 weeks
- The Zutphenseweg (N348) between Gorssel and the roundabout near Eefde will be closed for 7 weeks, namely from Monday 30 March to Friday 15 May 2026.
- The N348 between the roundabout near Eefde and Zutphen will be closed for one and a half weeks, namely from Monday 4 May to Friday 15 May 2026. During this period, the carriageway between Gorssel and the roundabout near Eefde will also be closed to prevent rat-running through the centre of Eefde.
- The roundabout near Eefde-Noord will remain open.
Diversion
Through traffic will be diverted via Lochem, over the A1 – N332 – N346. From Apeldoorn-Zuid, traffic will be diverted via Voorst, over the N345. Diversion routes will be indicated with road signs. Traffic should allow for an additional 20 to 30 minutes of travel time.
Additional measures to discourage rat-running
During the previous road closure between Gorssel and Eefde (October 2025), there was significant nuisance from rat-running in the area. We received around 300 complaints from local residents and businesses. In addition, several traffic controllers were physically attacked and verges were damaged by vehicles. For this reason, we are implementing extra measures this time to discourage rat-running, namely:
- Concrete blocks on the road: The junction of the Eefdese Enkweg with the Gorsselse Enkweg will be blocked with concrete blocks. The same applies to the junction of the Flierderweg with the Lindeboomweg. Only cyclists will be able to pass through these points.
- Half carriageway closure: A traffic light system will be installed on the Dortherdijk. This will allow traffic to pass through one lane at a time, keeping the road open but causing some delay.
- Navigation systems and social media: Before and during the roadworks, we will communicate via Waze, Google Maps, Facebook and Instagram about the road closures and diversion routes.
- During the roadworks between Eefde and Zutphen, the road between Gorssel and the roundabout near Eefde will remain closed. This is to prevent rat-running through the centre of Eefde.
We have coordinated these measures with the municipalities of Lochem and Zutphen, emergency services and the bus company.
Accessibility
Homes and businesses will remain as accessible as possible by road. They will always be accessible on foot. Emergency services will also have access to the road at all times.
Bus
During the roadworks, the bus service will continue to operate. The route will be temporarily adjusted and will run via the Zutphenseweg (N348) – Flierderweg – Lindeboomweg – Joppelaan – Hoofdstraat. As a result, three stops will temporarily be out of service: Quatre Bras, Klokweg and Museum MORE. For the most up-to-date information, visit the Arriva website.
Cyclists
Cyclists will still be able to use the cycle path or will be guided around the roadworks on site.
