Children give nature a boost: 25 extra trees in Wolfheze
On Wednesday, March 11, 2026, children from the Beatrix School in Wolfheze planted trees on the grounds of care institution Pro Persona. With this action, we are demonstrating that greenery is important in the three key developments taking place around Wolfheze, including our nature project Boschhoeve.
Rain no problem
Despite a heavy downpour, the atmosphere on March 11 was excellent during the Tree Planting Festival in Wolfheze. Children from the Beatrix School were clearly eager to plant trees alongside Deputy Harold Zoet and Alderman Joa Maouche. In addition, the children received an explanation from Jacqueline Baar of Soil Best about fungi in the soil and why they are important. Fungi help trees grow better, and the children immediately put this knowledge into practice. With shovels and plenty of enthusiasm, they added the fungi while planting and firmly placed the young trees in the ground. The new trees contribute to biodiversity on the grounds and a greener Wolfheze.
Tree Planting Festival symbolizes collaboration amid changes in Wolfheze
Province of Gelderland, Municipality of Renkum, and Pro Persona jointly organized this Tree Planting Festival due to the major changes coming to the Wolfheze area. The immediate reason is the municipality’s project near the railway crossing. The railway crossing on Wolfhezerweg in Wolfheze is being removed and replaced with an underpass for motorized traffic, cyclists, and pedestrians. Many trees have recently been cut down for this project. The municipality wants to show that greenery in and around the village remains very important. Pro Persona supports this effort. The organization also has major plans for more housing and renovating existing buildings on its grounds. According to Pro Persona, a green, pleasant living environment is important for clients, employees, and the surrounding area. Our nature project Boschhoeve is also located next to the Pro Persona grounds. With the Boschhoeve project, we aim to create a strong natural connection between the heathlands of Reijerskamp and Doorwerthse Heide. The more nature and biodiversity there is in the project area, the better the natural environment can develop.
The Tree Planting Festival is a great opportunity to show that actions taken in one place have an impact elsewhere. It is important to work on this together with the local community.
