Groningen thus becomes the second province in the Netherlands with a Rainbow Ambassador. The work of the newly appointed ambassador is prepared with an exploration by the current Rainbow Ambassador of Drenthe, Henk Nijmeijer. He speaks with municipalities and social organizations in Groningen. They are enthusiastic about more structural cooperation at the provincial level with a Rainbow officer.
Function
The role of Rainbow Ambassador provides a recognizable point of contact. In addition, the role helps translate experiences from society into actions that contribute to social safety, acceptance, and equality in the daily lives of residents, for example in education, sports, care, and welfare.
Inclusive province
The province of Groningen has been a rainbow province since 2016, which means Groningen is committed in various ways to LGBTI people. For example, by supporting initiatives through the Diversity, Equality and Inclusion scheme, which will reopen in early 2026.
