Closure of Nittersweg and Reitdiep Bridge
From March 2 to April 19, the Nittersweg (N388) will be closed from the Reitdiep Bridge to the intersection with S.H. Woldringhstraat. During this seven-week closure, the province will install a new bicycle bridge over the Reitdiep, carry out major maintenance on the N388, remove sheet piles, and renovate the existing Reitdiep Bridge. Zoutkamp will be accessible from the north side and S.H. Woldringhstraat during this period.
Closure of Panserweg and Hunsingo Bridge
From April 20 to May 19, the Panserweg (N388) will be closed from the intersection with S.H. Woldringhstraat to Stationsstraat, including the Hunsingo Bridge. This four-week closure will be used for major maintenance of the N388, redesign of S.H. Woldringhstraat, and repair of bridge components. Zoutkamp will be accessible from the south side and Sluisweg during this period.
Closure of North Side of Zoutkamp
After work near the two bridges is completed, major maintenance will follow on the north side of Zoutkamp. The entrance to the built-up area, access to the ice rink, and the bicycle and pedestrian path will be redesigned. This work will last a total of four weeks.
Impact on Accessibility
The closures in Zoutkamp are expected to cause significant inconvenience for road users, residents, and businesses. By dividing the work and combining it where possible, the province aims to minimize the disruption as much as possible.
Cyclists and Pedestrians
Cyclists and pedestrians will always be able to pass the works.
Greener and Safer Zoutkamp
The traffic approach in Zoutkamp is necessary to improve safety. Currently, cyclists and pedestrians share the Reitdiep Bridge with cars, trucks, and agricultural traffic. This regularly leads to unsafe situations. Traffic in Zoutkamp is also increasing, especially the ‘Rondje Lauwersmeer’ which is popular among cyclists. With a separate bicycle and pedestrian bridge next to the existing bridge, traffic will be separated. Between the two bridges in Zoutkamp, a bicycle path separated from the road will be created. Clarifying intersections, crossings, and the built-up area boundary on the provincial road should contribute to traffic safety. There is also attention for greening Zoutkamp by replacing paving with grass strips and small hedges where possible.
New Waterworks Zoutkamp
In addition to the province, the Noorderzijlvest water board and the municipality of Het Hogeland are carrying out projects in and around Zoutkamp. They are part of the New Waterworks Zoutkamp project. The goal is to improve water and traffic safety, economy, livability, and ecology of Zoutkamp and surroundings and to stimulate tourism. More information is available on the website of the Noorderzijlvest water board (https://www.noorderzijlvest.nl).
Friday Morning Consultation Hour
The province is happy to cooperate with residents and entrepreneurs. Anyone who wishes can visit the information center on Friday mornings between 09:00 and 12:00 to speak with a provincial employee. The information center is located in the parking lot near the ice rink at Panserweg 8 and 9 in Zoutkamp.
