Broad collaboration strengthens Maastricht neighbourhoods
Together with the Municipality of Maastricht and social partners, the Province of Limburg is working to improve the Pottenberg and Nazareth neighbourhoods. This is being done under the provincial Area-Based Neighbourhood and Village Approach.
On Friday 13 March, all partners signed a collaboration agreement. This is the seventh of eight agreements that Deputy Marc van Caldenberg will sign to help neighbourhoods that need a boost. “With a long-term collaboration, we will work together with all partners and the residents of Pottenberg and Nazareth to make the neighbourhoods more liveable, safer and more social. In this way, we are building a sustainable and strong community where children have opportunities and can grow up safely. A neighbourhood where everyone can participate,” the Deputy said.
In the new youth drop-in centre on Silexstraat, the Municipality of Maastricht, the Province of Limburg, Envida, Mondriaan, Servatius, Trajekt and Woonpunt signed the collaboration agreement.
€10 million for neighbourhood and village approach
The Province of Limburg is investing a total of €10 million in the Area-Based Neighbourhood and Village Approach, aimed at structurally improving liveability and security of existence in eight locations. These are: Kerkrade-Oost, the Vastenavondkamp neighbourhood in Blerick (Venlo), Heerlen-Noord, the Maastricht neighbourhoods of Nazareth and Pottenberg, Donderberg in Roermond, the Offenbeek neighbourhood in Reuver (Beesel), Geleen-Zuid and Vaals. Since every neighbourhood is different, the approach remains tailored. Plans are therefore drawn up in consultation with residents so that they fit the area and the people who live there.
