The province of North Holland, together with the national government, municipalities, and other involved organizations, is exploring the possibilities of generating sustainable energy along the A27 from Blaricum to Gorinchem.
This has been jointly agreed upon by the parties in a letter of intent. With this project, achieving the climate goal is one step closer. Participating parties include: Rijkswaterstaat, the National Real Estate Agency, the Netherlands Enterprise Agency, province of North Holland, province of Utrecht, province of South Holland, and the municipalities of Blaricum, Laren, Hilversum, De Bilt, Utrecht, Houten, Nieuwegein, Vijfheerenlanden, Molenlanden, and Gorinchem.
By 2030, 70% of electricity must come from renewable sources, such as wind and solar energy. By 2050, that will be 100%. The space required for this in North Holland, just like in the rest of the Netherlands, is a significant challenge. Therefore, regional and local parties are working together on the Regional Energy Strategy (RES). This describes how and where sustainable electricity can be generated using solar and wind energy.
Preliminary Exploration
Last spring, a preliminary exploration was conducted regarding the A27. The next step is to further investigate promising locations. This involves side slopes and connections, noise barriers, and adjacent open plots of land. There is also a look into the possibilities for financial participation. In this case, the surrounding community invests in the project and/or experiences the benefits of the projects returns for sustainable generation. The exploration phase is expected to be completed by mid-2026.
Part of the OER Program
The research into the locations falls under the program Generating Energy on National Real Estate (OER). With the OER program, the national government makes its real estate available for the development of renewable energy Opens an external link .
