Residents with a low income will receive more discounts on public transport starting December 14. The Province of Utrecht is increasing the discount from 40% to 70%. Subscription options and discount products will be simplified with a daily maximum fare of 10 euros and a monthly maximum of 100 euros. As a traveler, you no longer have to worry whether a subscription is beneficial: you never pay too much.
Youths aged 12 to 18 will continue to receive a 35% discount, just like with current subscriptions. They will pay no more than 6.50 euros per day or 65 euros per month.
Additionally, traveling remains affordable for children: children aged 4 to 11 travel free with an adult (maximum three children per paying traveler).
New Benefits
The Province of Utrecht wants to make public transport attractive and affordable. Therefore, new benefits will be introduced:
- Maximum daily fare: With OVpay, you never pay more than 10 euros per day; youths aged 12 to 18 pay no more than 6.50 euros.
- Maximum monthly fare: With U-OV Max Month, you never pay more than 100 euros per month (65 euros for youths). Travelers can register for free.
- U-OV Off-peak: For 30 euros per month, unlimited travel outside peak hours.
Existing Subscriptions
Existing subscriptions on the OV-chipkaart remain valid until the end of their term. Travelers who purchased monthly or annual subscriptions from current carriers Syntus Utrecht or Qbuzz can continue to travel with these subscriptions. U-OV Star subscriptions on the OV-chipkaart will be sold until summer 2026.
New Timetable
The Provincial Executive of Utrecht established the passenger fares for tram and bus in the province of Utrecht on November 25, 2025, for 2026. These new fares will take effect on December 14, coinciding with the start of the new timetable. From that moment, all tram and bus transport in the entire province will be operated under the U-OV brand. This also means that travelers can use the same travel products and corresponding fares throughout the province.
