Renewed subsidy scheme for energy transition
The Province of Utrecht has renewed its subsidy scheme for the energy transition to better align with current needs and accelerate the transition. This scheme supports municipalities, entrepreneurs, residents' initiatives, social organizations, and other partners in developing sustainability projects focused on energy savings and the use of sustainable heat sources. It also encourages innovative projects, such as energy hubs, to explore collective solutions that make efficient use of the electricity grid.
Huib van Essen, Deputy for the Energy Transition, said: “The Province of Utrecht is already making significant strides in the energy transition. With this renewed subsidy scheme, we are focusing on energy savings and efficient use of the electricity grid. Together with our partners, we are working towards a future-proof and sustainable energy system.”
The scheme
To make progress in the energy transition despite grid congestion (‘traffic jam on the electricity grid’), we need to move towards an integrated and innovative energy system where energy is generated and used locally as much as possible. The subsidy scheme supports this. For example, subsidies are available for preparing and implementing energy hubs. We are also focusing on energy savings in businesses and social organizations, greening work locations, and small-scale local generation of sustainable energy.
Subsidies are also available for making the existing housing stock gas-free. Municipal heat plans require research and consultation with the community, especially when it comes to laying heat networks. Municipalities can apply for subsidies for this purpose. Residents' initiatives working on greening their own neighbourhoods may also qualify for subsidies. Additionally, there is (limited) funding available for pilot projects and organizing activities specifically aimed at homeowners who are difficult for municipalities to reach.
