The RES region Hoeksche Waard has achieved its goal of generating sustainable electricity already in 2025. This is 5 years earlier than planned. A total of 0.476 terawatt-hours of sustainable electricity is now being generated through wind farms, solar parks, and large solar roofs in the region. RES stands for Regional Energy Strategy.
Thanks to the joint efforts of the province, water board, HW Wonen, Stedin, municipality, and residents, social organizations, developers, and (agricultural) entrepreneurs, this has been achieved. It is a result to be proud of together.
What is the RES and why are parties working together?
The Regional Energy Strategy (RES) is part of the Climate Agreement. In the RES region Hoeksche Waard, governments, grid operators, housing corporations, and other partners work together on generating sustainable energy and making buildings natural gas-free.
What steps have been taken?
In 2021, the RES region Hoeksche Waard agreed to generate 0.476 TWh of sustainable electricity by 2030. In the years that followed, this goal was increasingly approached. Thanks to the commissioning of the Oude Mol wind farm and new solar roofs at the beginning of 2025, the goal has now already been achieved. This is 5 years earlier than planned.
Collaborating on the energy system of the future
Chairman of the Steering Group RES region Hoeksche Waard, Harry van Waveren: I am proud that we achieve the goal for 2030 already in 2025. This is a great achievement for everyone who has contributed to it. At the same time, we know that this is just the beginning. Smart and local coordination of supply and demand is essential. And we can only achieve that together.
The province of South Holland also emphasizes the importance of collaboration. Berend Potjer, deputy for energy: A great achievement that we as RES partners can be proud of! It shows that by working well together in the RES region, we can achieve a lot. Compliments also certainly to the municipality, the councilor, and the local partners who have played an important role in this. We look forward to further collaboration to build a future-proof energy system in Hoeksche Waard with energy from our own area.
Although the goal for sustainable generation has been achieved, there are still significant challenges on the agenda. Think of the greening of heat, mobility, and agriculture, and strengthening the energy infrastructure. The RES region continues to strive for an integrated approach, in which local strength and regional cooperation go hand in hand.
