Krimpenerwaard Thinks Along About a Sustainable Rural Area

The meeting in Krimpenerwaard about the future plan for the rural area was well attended. In table sessions, residents, farmers, and entrepreneurs discussed their ideas for addressing soil subsidence, nature restoration, water quality and crayfish, climate goals, the vitality of the rural area, and perspectives for farmers.

Just like in other rural areas, the Province of South Holland is working in Krimpenerwaard with partners such as the water board, nature organizations, the agricultural sector, and the municipality towards a future-proof rural area. Because even though the new cabinet has discontinued the National Program for Rural Areas, the challenges remain and are not gone. Parties in the area continue to collaborate on a shared future perspective.

First Perspective

Deputy Frank Rijkaart (agriculture, nitrogen, and peat meadows): At the end of 2024, I was presented with a first perspective by agricultural representatives and nature organizations. This includes components they want to work on. Those plans will be further developed and refined by also incorporating the opinions and ideas of residents and entrepreneurs. I am curious about what comes out of this and would love to come back to discuss it further!

Input from Visitors

All input from visitors will be taken into account by the steering group as input for the integrated area plan that will be delivered at the end of 2025. In this plan, parties in the area indicate how they want to address the issues of water, climate, and nature.
