In 2012, 59 percent of companies were able to offer remote work. This increased to 83 percent in 2021 but remained stable at about 80 percent thereafter. Remote work means employees have access to company documents or software outside the company premises, not just email.
Not all employees can perform their work outside the company premises; the nature of the work does not always allow this. In 2025, 61 percent of employees had the possibility to work remotely, compared to 22 percent in 2012. Since 2022, this has remained nearly the same. Remote work increased strongly during the corona pandemic.
