The Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate (ILT) together with the Omgevingsdienst Drenthe conducted inspections on March 12 at 24 company locations and 6 waste transporters in Drenthe. A total of 33 inspectors, supervisors, and enforcers participated.
Deficiencies were found at 17 companies and 3 transporters. Some findings require further investigation. These include:
- Storage of hazardous substances without the required soil protection measures.
- Different qualities of waste and soil streams not separated in storage.
- Operating in deviation from or without a permit.
- Incomplete registration in the National Waste Reporting Center (LMA).
- Transporting waste without the correct documents.
- Soil transport not reported to the competent authority.
- Liquid-tight floors not timely approved.
- Incorrect registration of stored volume.
- An environmental declaration contains incorrect information.
- Improper waste processing or registration.
The joint inspection focused on the processing of waste (including discarded electrical and electronic devices) and storage of reusable soil. Additionally, transports were checked to see if they had the correct papers to cross the border into Germany.
Protecting the Environment
The aim of this joint inspection day was to monitor compliance with regulations where oversight responsibilities of Omgevingsdienst Drenthe and the ILT align or overlap. It concerns general environmental regulations and permit stipulations.
The environmental regulations are intended to protect our environment, such as soil quality. They also contribute to responsible processing and reuse of materials. For example, it is undesirable for clean waste streams to be deliberately mixed with contaminated waste streams, or for a company to conduct activities unknown to authorities, thus burdening the environment.
Together, Omgevingsdienst Drenthe and the ILT contribute to a safe and healthy province with this inspection day.
