Where to and for how long?
The selected countries are Switzerland, Germany, Italy, the United States, and the United Kingdom. Each researcher will stay for a minimum of 24 months.
The United States has been chosen several times as a destination in this round. If problems arise regarding the current tensions in the United States, NWO will try to help by postponing deadlines or providing necessary legal information. In some respects, NWO may be limited in its efforts to assist a researcher, as NWO is not the employer, but only the funder of the research project. Further investigation will be conducted on how NWO can support researchers affected by these changes.

Features of the Rubicon program
The grant enables young researchers to conduct research at a foreign institution that offers the best environment for their research. The amount of funding depends on the chosen destination and the duration of the stay. Each year, NWO and ZonMw can fund around sixty young researchers (for a total amount of around 7 million euros, distributed over 3 rounds). The allocations from this announcement concern the last funding round of 2024.
