The Public Prosecution Service Limburg (OM) has demanded a prison sentence of three and a half years and a fine against a 33-year-old man from Stein. The OM accuses him of trading in firearms and possessing and trading illegal fireworks. Additionally, the man allegedly traded drugs according to the OM. Police found a huge amount of Cobra fireworks (2400!) in the suspects parental home.

The messages on the suspects phone, as well as the photos, confirm the possession of the suspects goods with the intention to trade them eventually. In fact, based on those chats and photos, the suspect appears to have been trading illegal goods for years.

The most normal thing in the world

The suspect states that he can easily pass on weapons. The prosecutor at the hearing: “The suspect is making steps in the criminal world. From fireworks to drugs, from drugs to weapons. He talks about it as if it is the most normal thing in the world. It is downright shocking. Cobra fireworks are especially highly sought after in the criminal milieu to instill fear and to carry out attacks. The Cobra 6 is the modern form of the hand grenade. That is not surprising, as one Cobra 6 causes comparable damage to a hand grenade. The suspect was able to transform his home from a wreck to a palace, while his stock of Cobra fireworks could blow off the front doors of 2,400 other houses.”

Adding fuel to the fire

In 2019, the suspect was previously convicted for possession of illegal fireworks. He was not deterred by police intervention and the penalty order. The suspect has stepped up his game and trades almost four times as much illegal fireworks of a heavier category. Additionally, weapons, soft drugs, and hard drugs.

Demanded sentence

Although the suspect had everything to lose, such as a permanent job and his own home, he still committed these offenses. According to the OM, this is completely incomprehensible. The OM believes that only a longer sentence does justice to the mentioned offenses, especially due to the quantity and combination of goods found. From retribution, but certainly also from general prevention. Besides a prison sentence of three and a half years, the OM demands a fine of 20,000 euros.

The judge will give a verdict in the case in two weeks.
