The Public Prosecution Service is bringing seven suspects to court again, suspected of involvement in the riots at Malieveld and in the city center of The Hague. The suspects were arrested in recent weeks and have been summoned to appear before the police court on February 5 or 10.

Since the riots on September 20, 2025, the police have been conducting extensive investigations into the hundreds of hours of footage available. They are examining who committed violence and whether perpetrators can be identified. This has led to six new arrests in recent weeks; a seventh suspect was already arrested in November. Most of them have been summoned and then released, one remains in pre-trial detention.

On Thursday, February 5, three men will stand trial from The Hague (27 years), Muntendam (18 years), and Someren (21 years). They are all suspected of having committed violence against police and/or bystanders at Malieveld or in the city center of The Hague. The 27-year-old from The Hague is also charged with a discriminatory aspect, including making the Hitler salute.

On February 10, two men from The Hague (20 and 49 years), one from Waddinxveen (23 years), and one from Zoetermeer (22 years) will appear in court. They are also suspected of having committed violence against police and/or bystanders at Malieveld or in the city center. The 20-year-old from The Hague is also suspected of vandalism at the Binnenhof, and the men from Waddinxveen and Zoetermeer are among others suspected of arson in a container at the D66 party office.

New Arrests

The investigation into the riots is still ongoing. New footage of the riots is also being shown in crime programs these weeks to ask the public for help in identifying rioters. The Public Prosecution Service expects to make more arrests in the future.

A next thematic session is already scheduled for April 22 at the police court. And on April 3, a suspect must appear before the multiple chamber of the court who was already arrested at the end of December.

Convictions

So far, the Public Prosecution Service has brought 25 suspects to court for their involvement in the riots. Nineteen of them have been convicted.

Some suspects were sentenced to community service. In most cases, the judge sentenced to weeks or months of imprisonment, sometimes partially conditional, often combined with community service. Compensation payments were also awarded or suspects had to pay an amount to the Victim Compensation Fund for violent crimes to compensate for the damage caused.

In one case, the Public Prosecution Service requested acquittal of the suspect. In three other cases, the suspect was acquitted. Two cases were adjourned by the court for further investigation, one of which is now scheduled for the hearing on February 10.
