On Sunday, September 14, 2003, officers discovered the lifeless body of a 33-year-old Tunisian resident of Rotterdam after a 112 call late in the evening. This occurred on Duivenvoordestraat in the Middelland neighborhood. He was found to have died from violence.
A major investigation was immediately launched, but no arrests were made. However, DNA traces of the suspected perpetrator were secured by Forensic Investigation. In 2019, this led to a match when DNA was taken from the suspect in Sweden. The reasons for this cannot be disclosed due to privacy regulations. After the DNA matched with stored DNA profiles in the international database, the man was found to be untraceable. He had been internationally wanted since then. Recently, he was finally arrested in Sweden. The Swedish authorities subsequently extradited him to the Netherlands.
The investigation has gained momentum with the arrest of the 51-year-old Libyan and continues unabated. A great result from the cold case team led by the Public Prosecution Service. Behind the scenes, work has been ongoing for all these years on the investigation into the death of the Tunisian. To avoid disturbing the investigation, no further announcements can be made at this time.
