The disturbance began around 9:30 PM after a man was refused entry to the fair. This led to a conflict with the security personnel, during which four people were arrested. The situation escalated as bystanders intervened in the arrest. This resulted in a massive fight. The police responded with a large deployment to help manage the situation. A group of individuals used violence against the police by throwing stones. The police formed a line and urged people to leave.
Around 10:00 PM, the fair operators decided to close the fair for the rest of the evening. After that, calm returned.
Arrests
Unfortunately, one colleague was injured during the fight. A total of five individuals were arrested. Four for public violence: a 19-year-old man from Leusden, a 37-year-old man from Amersfoort, an 18-year-old man from Amersfoort, and a 46-year-old man from Leusden. And one for violating a prohibition: an 18-year-old man from Amersfoort.
Violence Against Police and Emergency Workers
Violence against police officers or other emergency workers during and outside working hours is unacceptable, and every incident is one too many. We do not accept crossing that line. Police officers have a responsible role in society and must be able to perform their duties without being hindered. With mutual respect. Aggression or violence, in any form, against staff is not tolerated. The police and judiciary have the same approach: reports are always taken, perpetrators are prioritized by the Public Prosecution Service, and a threefold higher penalty is demanded against the offenders.
Police officers work to de-escalate when possible. But when necessary, we step forward and do not shy away from confrontation; for the safety of emergency workers and citizens.
