Officers were driving in a distinctive service vehicle around 9:00 PM near Vijzelgracht when they were signaled by a tram driver to stop. The tram driver reported that a man had just assaulted and spat on a fellow passenger. The victim, who confronted the suspect for harassing two women on the tram, sustained facial injuries. The tram driver then pointed out the suspect, who had just exited the tram. When the officers confronted the suspect and attempted to arrest him, he violently resisted and used significant force against the two officers. With the help of bystanders, the officers ultimately managed to handcuff the suspect and he was taken to the police station.
The officers received treatment for their injuries at the hospital and filed a report of assault. The victim of the spitting incident also filed a complaint of insult and assault.
