No fewer than 470 police officers from 20 different teams were involved. The check focused on traffic, crime, and cross-border safety.
More than two thousand vehicles
A total of 2671 vehicles and 2098 individuals were checked. During this check, 21 drug offenses were recorded, and 14 individuals were caught violating the immigration law. Additionally, officers uncovered 25 other criminal offenses, including theft and possession of weapons.
During a check at the Aachen-Land parking lot, 1 kilogram of heroin with a street value of approximately €40,000 was found with the help of a customs drug dog.
Alcohol and drugs
Traffic safety also received a lot of attention. 7 drivers were caught driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, while 8 individuals were behind the wheel without a drivers license. This led to immediate measures in some cases. A total of 1847 fines were issued for various offenses, such as speeding and technical deficiencies in vehicles. In addition, 3 individuals were arrested for serious criminal offenses.
In the early afternoon, a pursuit took place by a mixed Belgian-German police patrol. This cross-border chase ended near Verviers with the arrest of 2 individuals. The investigation into this matter is ongoing.
International cooperation
Of all the regions within the National Police, the Limburg unit may be the most qualified to speak on this. With our 351 kilometers of external borders, we face criminals who do not consider national borders. This makes international cooperation a must, especially if we want to effectively combat high-level criminal players.
NeBeDeAgPol
The cross-border cooperation between Dutch, German, and Belgian police is organized in the NeBeDeAgPol. It was established more than 50 years ago and is a consortium of the three police chiefs in the Euregio-Meuse-Rhine. This police cooperation manifests itself in various working groups. Joint checks and deployments are core tasks of the NeBeDeAgPol, including the deployment during the Euregioprotect CrossOver.
