The 14-year-old boy appeared at the door of an 86-year-old woman after she had been contacted by a friendly female voice on the phone shortly before. The voice claimed that burglars were active in the area and that her valuables needed to be secured.
The boy asked the woman to hand over her money and jewelry. The resident did not trust the story, firmly turned the boy away, and immediately called the police.
In the Trap
When an officer arrived and spoke with the woman, her phone rang again. On the line was another so-called officer, this time claiming they wanted to install cameras at her home. The woman and the police officer devised a trick. They invited the fake officer to come back.
Upon his return, the 14-year-old boy was arrested by real officers. A short distance away, the 20-year-old from Roosendaal, who acted as the driver, was also apprehended.
The alert resident was thanked by the police for her brave actions and received a well-deserved compliment.
Not the First Time
The police had already had the 14-year-old suspect in their sights regarding previous similar cases. He has been recognized on surveillance footage from similar incidents in Berkel-Enschot, Stolwijk, Krimpen aan de Lek, and Hellevoetsluis.
