Check on fatbikes, mopeds, and snorfietsen in Hoofddorp
On Tuesday, March 17, the police conducted a one-hour check on mopeds, snorfietsen, and fatbikes. This took place between 08:15 and 09:15 on the Kruisweg in Hoofddorp. Among other things, we checked the technical condition and speed. It was also a good opportunity to raise awareness among riders about how to safely take to the road—and return home safely.
A total of 30 road users were stopped. Of the 29 mopeds and snorfietsen, we inspected the technical condition and checked the driving and registration documents. This resulted in the following:
- 1 WOK report due to exceeding the maximum speed limit
- 1 fine for a loose chin strap on the helmet
- 1 fine for using a phone while riding. You are not allowed to call, text, swipe, or hold your phone while riding. Are you using your phone as a navigation device? Then use a holder. Listening to music? Put your phone in your jacket pocket and use one earbud or keep the volume low. This way, you can still hear traffic and your surroundings.
- 1 arrest for riding under the influence of drugs on a moped. The rider tested positive for cannabis and cocaine and refused the blood test. The driver’s license was therefore confiscated.
We also seized a fatbike that could travel at 30 km/h with a throttle. The rider had previously been warned about this.
We see that speed, distraction, and riding under the influence lead to dangerous situations on the road. With these types of checks, we aim to contribute to safer roads for everyone, so that people can travel safely and return home unharmed.
