In February, Hengeveld made a familiarization visit to Bonaire, where he got acquainted with the institution and made practical preparations for his upcoming move.

Peter Hengeveld has 32 years of experience with the Marine Corps, where he held various assignments within the prison system in the Caribbean part of the Kingdom. He then worked as an operational director in a marble company and as the director-manager of a private educational institution for vocational and higher education.
His appointment as director of JICN is the result of an open recruitment process, where the vacancy was widely publicized to give everyone the opportunity to apply.
