The extensive works on the Second Coentunnel have been completed. The tunnel on the A10 West will be reopened on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at 15:00. Maintenance has been carried out in the tunnel over the last nine weeks.

The Second Coentunnel has been closed since Saturday, July 12, 2025. During the closure, Rijkswaterstaat improved the fire resistance of the tunnel. Additional heat-resistant plates have been installed.

The asphalt has also been replaced, and various technical installations have been renewed, such as lighting and cameras. Additionally, road users will experience the tunnel as lighter due to the coated walls. This keeps the tunnel safe for road users.

Remaining Works

Until Saturday, September 13, the final works will be carried out. On Friday, September 12, work will still be done on the marking and the expansion joints of the new asphalt. On Saturday, traffic measures will be dismantled in different phases so that the tunnel can be reopened in the afternoon.

However, road users should still expect traffic disruption on the A10 North on Sunday. During the closure of the Second Coentunnel, an extra lane was available from the A10 North to the A8 to increase the capacity of the diversion route.

This measure was temporary and will be removed on Sunday, September 14. As a result, in the morning, the connection from A10 North to A8 will be closed, and in the afternoon, the connection from A10 North to A10 West. Traffic will be diverted via junction Zaandam.

Major Maintenance A10 East

Starting Friday, September 19, the A10 East will be closed from junction Watergraafsmeer to junction Amstel. From now until Monday, October 6, we will replace the asphalt there. We will also renew joints, guardrails, and damaged sound barriers.
