Works on A16 in October 2025
Before the highway opens, work will still be done to replace a viaduct on the A16 over the Hoofdweg in Rotterdam, technical systems will be tested, safety exercises organized in the Rottemerentunnel, and personnel trained at the traffic control center.
Before the A16 Rotterdam can open, in addition to weekend closures for finishing the viaduct over the Hoofdweg in August and September, two major weekend closures are still needed to connect the new highway to the existing A13 and A16 highways.
From Friday, October 3 at 10:00 PM to Monday, October 6, 2025, at 5:00 AM:
- A13 closed between Delft-Zuid (TU Delft) and junction Kleinpolderplein, including rest area Ruyven
- N209 closed between Vliegveldweg and N472 (Bergschenhoek)
From Friday, October 24 at 10:00 PM to Monday, October 27, 2025, at 5:00 AM:
- A16 main lane and parallel lane closed between junction Ridderkerk and junction Terbregseplein for through traffic, including entrance and exit 24, 25, and 26)
- A13 closed between junction Kleinpolderplein and Delft-Zuid (TU Delft), including rest area Vrijenban
- N209 closed between N472 (Bergschenhoek) and Vliegveldweg
Major Maintenance on A16 from September 2025 to May 2026
The asphalt on the A16 between junction Terbregseplein near Rotterdam and junction Ridderkerk-Noord near Ridderkerk needs to be replaced. Therefore, we will carry out major maintenance between September 2025 and May 2026. This will extend the lifespan of the road surface and ensure safe traffic flow.
In addition to renewing the asphalt, we will replace the expansion joints, lower the berms to better drain rainwater, and carry out work on the guardrails. Various repair works will also be carried out on viaducts and bridges.
Also, during the weekend of September 26 to 29, including on the open day of the A16 Rotterdam, work will be done. The parallel lane of the A16 will be closed in the southern direction between junction Terbregseplein and junction Ridderkerk-Noord.
We advise interested parties to prepare their trip well and to come to the open day as much as possible using alternative transport. The program for the day and information about accessibility will be published on our website and the website A16rotterdam .
