Rijkswaterstaat, the Central Government Real Estate Agency, and the Port of Rotterdam have allocated 80 hectares of water surface at the dredging depot De Slufter for the realization of a floating solar park.
DevCap has been chosen as the main party of the Sun Float Power consortium in a tender procedure as the operator of a floating solar park on De Slufter on the Rotterdam Maasvlakte. Contaminated dredged material is stored at the De Slufter depot. By also generating solar energy at this location, the scarce space is used doubly.
With the realization of this 96MWp solar park, around 87,000 MWh can be generated annually, equivalent to the consumption of 30,000 households. Direct connections with customers in the area mean this power does not increase pressure on the electricity grid. The tender is part of the Energy Generation on State Property (OER) program commissioned by the Ministry of Climate and Green Growth.
Good Neighborliness
In Sun Float Power BV i.o., the companies DevCap Infra BV, Solinoor BV, and Enerparc AG collaborate, each with extensive experience with floating solar parks. Decisive for the choice for Sun Float Power was their plan for cooperation with the Slufter Management Organization, which manages and maintains the dredging depot.
The dredging depot must remain operational during the construction and operational phase of the floating solar park. The attention to ecology, safety, and environment in the proposal entitled ‘Good Neighborliness’ also played a role in the choice. Sun Float Power is responsible for selling the sustainably generated energy and has agreements with potential customers in the area. The solar park is expected to be operational in 2027.
Generating Energy on State Lands
The basis of this tender is the OER program, for large-scale realization of solar or wind parks by developers on state lands. The goal of the OER program is to contribute to the task of the Regional Energy Strategies (RES) to generate 35 TWh of sustainable energy on land by 2030.
