We are replacing the wear layer of Den Ysere Ryve, the bypass bridge over the Grevelingensluis. The work will take place from Monday, April 7, 07:00 to Tuesday, April 15, 2025, 23:59.
During the work, the Grevelingensluis will be completely closed to shipping. Road traffic will use the main roadway and will not be affected by the work. It is necessary to replace the wear layer approximately every 12 years.
Work on Den Ysere Ryve
Shipping
The Grevelingensluis is closed to shipping during the work. Shipping has already been informed via a Shipping Notice (BAS), and via the website Vaarweginformatie.
More information about the work on the Grevelingensluis and the current schedule can be found on the project page of the Grevelingensluis.
(Moped) Cyclists
(Moped) cyclists will be locally redirected via the nearby bicycle bridge. The detour route is indicated with yellow signs. The extra travel time is approximately 5 minutes.
Agricultural Traffic
Agricultural traffic up to 3 meters wide is guided over the bicycle path of the Grevelingen bridge. Agricultural traffic wider than 3 meters can only pass the Grevelingen bridge during block times. Staging areas are set up on the north and south sides on the parallel road where agricultural traffic can gather.
These are indicated by signs. At two times a day, between 05:30 - 06:40 and between 20:40 - 21:40, agricultural vehicles can cross the bridge under the guidance of traffic controllers. Traffic from the opposite direction approaching the bridge will be briefly stopped.
Public Transport
Buses will pass the bridge via the bicycle path of the Grevelingen bridge. During block times for agricultural traffic, the bus will use the roadway of the Grevelingen bridge.
Schedule
The detours and closure are planned from Monday, April 7, 07:00 to Tuesday, April 15, 2025, 23:59. This schedule is provisional. In adverse weather conditions, the work may be postponed.
Work on Den Ysere Ryve
A wear layer ensures that cars have sufficient grip on the bridge. The wear layer consists of multiple layers and is about 2 cm thick.
We replace the wear layers in several steps: we remove the old wear layer, perform inspections, repair the underlayer if necessary, and then apply the new wear layer.
The application of the wear layer is weather-sensitive. It must not be too cold and not too moist. Therefore, a new wear layer on this bridge can only be applied between April and September. After replacement, the wear layers have an expected lifespan of 12 years.
Hongersdijck Bridge Zandkreeksluis
In addition to replacing the wear layer of Den Ysere Ryve, we will also replace the wear layer of the Hongersdijck bridge over the Zandkreeksluis from April 7 to 15, 2025. This lock is also closed during the work. More information can be found on the project page of the Zandkreeksluis.
