The Stimulation of Sustainable Energy Production and Climate Transition (SDE++) subsidy will open a month later this year than usual. This gives entrepreneurs more time to submit a good application. They can do so from October 7 to November 6 at the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO). RVO also offers advisory meetings to help entrepreneurs submit a good subsidy application.
This is stated in a letter to parliament dated February 21. The budget for the SDE++ 2025 is €8 billion.
RVO provides initial advice on application
The SDE++ provides subsidies to companies and non-profit organizations that generate large-scale renewable energy or reduce CO2 emissions. Applicants can now first discuss their project with an advisor from RVO. Soon, a form will be available on the RVO website to request a meeting. RVO also helps improve the quality of applications, increasing entrepreneurs chances of obtaining a subsidy.
Separate budget for less profitable techniques
In this subsidy round, there is also a separate budget for techniques that produce low-temperature heat, high-temperature heat, and molecules (green gas and hydrogen). These techniques are currently less profitable for entrepreneurs but are important for further sustainability in the long term. €750 million is reserved for each of these techniques.
New subsidy opportunities
In 2025, there are also several new subsidy opportunities for entrepreneurs. These include installations for capturing CO2 from the air. This so-called Direct Air Capture (DAC) captures CO2, which the greenhouse horticulture sector can use as fertilizer for plants. Entrepreneurs can now also apply for subsidies for installations to recover hydrogen from waste. Additionally, there are a few new possibilities for solar panels.
Disappeared from the SDE++ subsidy
There are also categories that will not return in the SDE++. These include techniques for which there have been no subsidy applications in the past 3 years:
- installations that generate energy with osmosis
- a daylight greenhouse
- installations that use hydropower with a drop of 50 cm or more
- installations for ultra-deep geothermal energy (geothermal energy)
- a boiler on B-wood
- Ministry of Climate and Green Growth
