Food Business Registration Now in MijnNVWA
All companies involved in the production, processing or distribution of food products are required to register with the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA). From 10 March 2026, this must be done in the digital environment MijnNVWA. By mapping all companies that work with food, consumers are better protected against food safety risks.
MijnNVWA is a personal, digital environment for businesses. In this portal, the NVWA requires all companies involved in the production, processing or distribution of food products to register (or re-register). This also applies to food companies already known to the NVWA or those holding a recognition, who must register via MijnNVWA.
How does it work?
See how entrepreneurs can register their food business. To do so, a registration with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce (KVK) and a login method are required. Entrepreneurs can log in using eHerkenning; sole proprietors can also use their DigiD. An entrepreneur must register each separate location of a food business individually. Companies are responsible for ensuring their details in MijnNVWA are correct. From now on, companies will receive an annual email reminder to verify their information.
Registration is legally mandatory
The registration is mandatory for all food businesses and is legally established in Regulation (EC) No 852/2004. The registration obligation helps better protect consumers against food safety risks. By enabling rapid mapping of companies handling food, products become easier to trace. The more companies registered, the faster risks can be identified and businesses warned.
During inspections, the NVWA checks whether companies comply with registration requirements. Failure to register may result in a warning or fine.
