In Kranenburg, in Kreis Kleve, state of North Rhine-Westphalia, just across the border in Germany, avian influenza has been detected at a turkey farm. Germany has established a restriction zone that partly lies within the Netherlands. Therefore, the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security and Nature (LVVN) has established a restriction zone.

Transport Ban

Due to the outbreak near the Dutch border, part of the restriction zone falls within the Netherlands. There are no poultry farms within the 3-kilometer zone on Dutch territory. Within the 10-kilometer zone on Dutch territory, there are 5 poultry farms. A transport ban applies immediately within the 10-kilometer zone. This means that no birds, hatching eggs, and/or consumption eggs may be transported from locations with birds in this zone. There is also a ban on the removal of manure from birds and used litter. These measures are necessary to prevent spread to other parts of the country. Animals other than birds and their products may be transported to and from locations with birds provided this is done according to the strict conditions of the hygiene protocol.

The location of the restriction zone can be seen on the animal disease viewer of the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO).
