Hydroponics training stimuleert duurzame landbouw op Aruba
Van 9 tot 15 maart leerden deelnemers in Aruba alles over hydroponics, een duurzame teeltmethode zonder grond. De training maakt deel uit van een overheidsplan om de landbouwsector te professionaliseren en biedt kansen voor nieuwe ondernemers, met begeleiding en financieringsmogelijkheden.

De Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries Unit (LVV) van Aruba speelt een centrale rol in het bevorderen van duurzame landbouw. Het initiatief maakt deel uit van het Strategic Action Plan for Sustainable Agriculture (SAPSA), dat tot doel heeft de lokale landbouwsector te versterken door innovatieve en klimaatbestendige methoden te introduceren.

Advancing Sustainable Farming Practices Through Hydroponics Training
From 9–15 March, the Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries Unit (LVV), together with Hydroponics Technologies Aruba, hosted a hydroponics training. Three enthusiastic and motivated groups participated in sessions on nutrients, fertilisers, growing media, and water quality, gaining hands-on experience building backyard hydroponic systems.
This training forms part of the Strategic Action Plan for Sustainable Agriculture’s (SAPSA) aims to create an enabling environment for the professionalisation of the agriculture and livestock sector. Under the five business cases that have been selected based on a combination of factors, including demonstrated demand, profitability, value addition potential, health and nutritional benefits, climate suitability, and the opportunity to achieve higher quality through local production, hydroponics was identified as one of the key subjects for developing sustainable agriculture practices.
Participants interested in starting commercial hydroponics businesses will receive guidance from the Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries Unit and trainers, including support to access credit and essential tools. Under SAPSA, at least five producers will be supported in establishing commercial hydroponics operations. Records will be maintained to track gender and age, ensuring the programme benefits a diverse group.
In the coming months, advanced hydroponics training will be organised for participants seeking to further develop their skills, along with aquaponics training.
