Dear participants,

Ladies and gentlemen,

As the first European Commissioner for the Mediterranean, it is a privilege for me to support the 25th edition of the CinemaMed Film Festival.

This years edition is already a success, with a remarkable selection of films on offer.

These stories do more than entertain – they invite us to see the Mediterranean through many lenses.

Revealing its energy, its diversity, and its humanity.

CinemaMed reminds us that culture is one of the strongest expressions of who we are as a region.

Culture has the capacity to build bridges and create understanding – and films are a very powerful tool in achieving this.

A single film can open a dialogue, spark empathy, and connect people who may never meet in real life.

Culture is an important part of the Pact for the Mediterranean – our new framework of strengthened cooperation between the European Union and the countries on the southern shores of the Mare Nostrum.

Because when we invest in culture, we invest in people, and in human ties that keep our region resilient and hopeful.

Films can be as diverse as the society they reflect. And can challenge our perspectives.

I am delighted that we have established the first ever European Commission Med Film Award – together with you.

The European Olive Branch Film Award goes to the film promoting gender equality and active citizenship.

These are not abstract principles. They are the foundations of vibrant, inclusive, and democratic societies.

I want to thank the members of the jury for their excellent work in choosing a film that reflects these values.

Your dedication ensures that the Mediterranean continues to speak with many voices – loud, proud, and full of creativity.

I hope to join you in person at next years edition.

But for now, I want to congratulate the organisers, CinemaMed, and all those who make this important festival a reality.

Thank you.
