Officers pulled the driving school cars over and checked whether the instructors and students had used alcohol or drugs. If the initial test indicated they were under the influence, the student or instructor immediately underwent a breathalyzer test or had blood drawn. Two police doctors were present during the checks. In total, 350 drug tests were conducted, with about four testing positive for substances such as cannabis and amphetamines.

Instructors were also checked for proper documentation, such as a driving license and an IBKI authorization card to give driving lessons, and the driving school cars were inspected for technical aspects, such as proper functioning of dual controls and dual mirrors, and whether the cars had a learner driver sign on the roof.

Other violations were also found during the checks:

  • 3 reports for failure to show a driving license.
  • 1 warning for an expired identity card of a student.
  • 1 case of mobile phone use while driving by an instructor.

It goes without saying that driving instructors caught driving under the influence face more severe consequences than others. For example, their authorization to give driving lessons can be revoked, and an instructor can be dismissed.
