Thanks to their efforts, countless old and broken devices have been reused, repaired, or recycled.
With an impressive total of 1,658 collected devices, group 7a from Primary School De Optimist in Tussen de Vaarten, Almere, won the E-waste Race! On March 27, 2025, Alderman Luijendijk presented the prize to the proud students. The school wins an educational school trip to Nemo and the lesson Expedition Upcycle at the Upcycle Center.
Electronic waste does not belong in residual waste
Much electronic waste unnecessarily ends up in residual waste or remains at home in the attic. This is a shame, as electronic devices contain valuable materials that can be reused. Therefore, children learn about the importance of the circular economy and sustainable waste processing during the E-waste Race.
Over four weeks, students collected small electronic waste and attempted to reuse devices. Neighbors could easily register their old devices via ewasterace.nl. The students picked them up at home. Thanks to their efforts, many devices now get a second life.
The participating schools were: De Kameleon, OBS de Vuurvogel, OBS het Meesterwerk, De Optimist, BS Al Iman, BS De Driemaster, Het Spectrum, De Kleine Wereld, and the Olivijn.
The E-waste Race Almere 2025 was made possible by the Municipality of Almere, Stad & Nature Almere, Foundation Open, and Weee Nederland.
Do you have electronic devices at home that you can no longer use? Bring them to one of the recycling depots in Almere.
