This autumn, in September, we will remove abandoned boats from the waters of Almere. These are boats that have sunk, been left behind, or are severely neglected. They are considered abandoned boats when they cause nuisance or dangerous situations or pose a threat to nature. It is time to clean up the water, banks, and docks and remove these abandoned boats. This gives a tidy and safe feeling.
Watch Your Boat
Should you be afraid that your boat will suddenly be removed soon? No, not really. The boats that are visibly in use will not be removed just like that. But do pay attention, if your boat is improperly moored or looks neglected or abandoned, you will likely find a letter on your boat. You will have a few weeks to remove it yourself; if you do not, it will be removed by the municipality. Note: the costs of removal, storage, and processing of a vessel will be charged to the owner.
Regulations
The regulations regarding the handling of vessels in public spaces are laid down in the Wrecks Act and the APV. Vessels that we remove from the water will be either destroyed immediately or stored for a short period (about 2 weeks) depending on their condition, so that any owner can come forward and reclaim the vessel.
