The municipal executive board of Almere requests the city council to approve the principle of creating space in Overgooi for the construction of approximately 3,000 homes. These homes will have a balanced mix of social rental, mid-range rental and purchase, and more expensive homes. This will make living in Overgooi accessible to more Almere residents while preserving its green-blue qualities.
Alderman for Housing and Spatial Development Paul Tang: “We are building a city that offers opportunities to everyone. This means that a neighborhood like Overgooi will soon be a place where teachers, healthcare workers, police officers, and young families can find affordable housing. We do this with respect for Overgooi’s green and spatial character, but also with attention to the housing shortage.”
Overgooi accessible for everyone
Currently, Overgooi is a villa neighborhood with a low population density on large plots. At the same time, the housing shortage is high and the demand for affordable homes for starters, families, and people with social professions is growing. With this proposal, the executive board wants to contribute to an inclusive city where every neighborhood, including Overgooi, has space for different income groups.
40-40-20
The principles are based on a housing program with 40 percent social rental, 40 percent mid-range rental and purchase, and 20 percent more expensive homes, with good public transport and preservation and strengthening of the green-blue structures that characterize Overgooi.
More space for facilities
If the principles are adopted by the council, living and working can be mixed in Overgooi. There will also be space for commercial and social facilities such as schools and shops, complementing the existing facilities in Almere Haven.
With the executive decision, the Policy Framework for decision-making will be submitted to the city council. The council will discuss the framework in a few weeks during the political market. Further elaboration will take place in subsequent phases, with ongoing council involvement.
