Almere residents can collect a free bag of compost at the Upcycle Center in Almere Haven and the recycling yards in Almere Poort and Almere Buiten. With the free compost, the municipality thanks residents for their efforts to deliver organic waste separately. The action is valid as long as supplies last.
In the organic waste with it
Research shows that there is often waste in the organic waste containers that does not belong there, and that a lot of organic waste and food scraps end up in residual waste. This is a shame, as residual waste is burned. It costs money and is bad for the environment. A full organic waste container yields about 15 to 20 kilos of compost.
Farmers in Flevoland use the compost for the vegetables sold in Almere supermarkets. However, the average resident of Almere still throws away about 50 kilos of organic waste and food scraps in the residual+PMD container each year. Thus, a lot of compost is lost.
