Residents of Almere can plan their Wmo transport and public transport in the 9292 app starting from September 23, 2025. This national premiere has been made possible through collaboration between the municipality of Almere, travel information service 9292, and mobility manager Qarin. This means that residents of Almere can book their trips directly themselves.

The Wmo transport - transport under the Social Support Act - in Almere is now fully integrated into the 9292 travel planner. According to Qarin, 9292, and the municipality of Almere, this is a service to travelers and a step towards more inclusive transport. “It is a logical and beautiful step to allow residents of Almere who depend on Wmo transport to connect to an app that demonstrably works well,” says alderman Nienke Nieuwenhuizen, who has Wmo in her portfolio in Almere. “For residents who cannot or not entirely travel with regular public transport, this provides convenience, efficiency, autonomy, and independence. It is very good that we have made this premiere possible together with our partners,” says the alderman.

Innovative Development

The result of the collaboration is, according to Joost Mortier, director of 9292, an important innovative development in public mobility: “With Wmo, we are adding another modality to the 9292 app. This is more effective for the executing party and easier and more accessible for the user of Wmo transport in Almere.”

Better Travel Information and Service

Wmo transport is for people who, for whatever reason, have difficulty using public transport. Research shows that this group could better and more easily use regular public transport for certain trips. Better connections, better travel information, and better service can ensure that Wmo pass holders are quicker to choose to cover part of their journey by public transport. This can lead to cost savings. A Wmo trip costs society on average ten times as much as a public transport trip. “If we can manage to convert ten percent of Wmo trips into regular public transport in Almere, that would save more than 100,000 euros per year,” calculates director Paul Pietersen of Qarin.

Aging and Affordability

“Across the country, there are major concerns about the affordability of target group transport in combination with further aging. In Almere, we have now taken a significant hurdle. We hope that many municipalities will follow,” says Pietersen.
