During the council meeting on Thursday, May 15, Nienke Nieuwenhuizen (CDA) was appointed as an alderman in the Almere college of mayor and aldermen. She succeeds her party colleague Froukje de Jonge, who will become mayor of the municipality of Oss.
The council first paused on Thursday to bid farewell to De Jonge, who was responsible for the portfolio of Public Health, Youth Assistance, Education, Housing, and Welfare. Mayor Van der Loo called De Jonges departure a loss for the city. He praised her commitment to vulnerable residents. You stood up for those who were struggling. Children growing up in poverty, youth without prospects, or residents who were caught in bureaucracy. He congratulated Oss on having a new mayor who will work with heart and soul for a better future for everyone.
Doctor in politics
Upon her installation, Nienke Nieuwenhuizen called it an honor to serve as an alderman. Until Thursday, she was the faction leader of the CDA in the Almere city council and worked as a specialist in elderly care in healthcare. As a doctor in politics, she wants to focus on creating a healthier Almere from the broad perspective of positive health. In my view, its about more than the absence of disease. Its also about meaning, participating in society, good education, experiencing resilience, and having control over ones own life and a healthy environment.
The college of mayor and aldermen in Almere is formed by PvdA, D66, SP, Party for the Animals, GroenLinks, Leefbaar Almere, and CDA. They all provide one alderman. The portfolio of Nienke Nieuwenhuizen will be formally established in the next college meeting.
Mayor Van der Loo: The college warmly welcomes Nienke Nieuwenhuizen to our team and looks forward to fruitful cooperation.
