Discarded sofas, armchairs, and box springs in Almere no longer have to be incinerated. In a new dismantling facility, they are taken apart so that all parts can be reused. The facility was officially opened by Alderman Jesse Luijendijk.

Alderman Luijendijk: Finding a new owner for these used pieces of furniture is of course the best option. For example, via Marktplaats, online giveaway corners, or a thrift store. The sofas, armchairs, and box springs that are still brought to the recycling station in Almere are fortunately no longer incinerated. The parts are reused, which is another great step towards a sustainable and circular economy.

The furniture is transported from the recycling stations to the new dismantling facility at De Steiger. There, the sofas, box springs, and armchairs are taken apart so that all parts can be reused. The wood, foam, metal, textile, and leather are carefully separated and recycled. This way, materials are given a second life and we contribute to less waste. Seven employees with distance to the labor market work in the facility. They get the chance to work again here, with appropriate guidance.
