In recent months, the #posifiets campaign has been running at full speed across the country. The campaign draws attention to proper bicycle parking at stations. During this campaign, incorrectly parked bikes, so-called abandoned bikes, have also been removed. The abandoned bikes have been refurbished by NS and distributed to various charities. At Almere Centrum station, the handover was to the charity ‘Als ik later groot ben’ (When I grow up).
Incorrectly parked bikes are found around stations throughout the Netherlands, including Almere Centrum. This often causes inconvenience for other travelers, passersby, or residents. The #posifiets campaign aims to raise awareness among travelers about this nuisance. The campaign was developed 4 years ago, and this year it kicked off in Almere. Almere Centrum station has 2 bike parking facilities: at Landdrostdreef and Busplein, with space for 3,400 bikes. With an OV-chipkaart, you can park your bike free for the first 24 hours.
Making a child happy?
A bike gives children freedom. Unfortunately, some parents do not have enough means to give their child a bike. The Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, the ANWB Childrens Bike Plan, and Stichting Leergeld Nederland call for bike donations. This way, refurbished bikes can reach children from families with limited financial means, because every child deserves a bike.
