All around the stations in the Netherlands, bicycles are parked everywhere. Often in places not designated for them. Therefore, NS, ProRail, and municipalities are once again calling attention in September to the proper parking of bicycles at stations. This year, the national Posibike campaign kicks off in Almere Centrum. Almere cyclists are directed to the NS bike storage at Busplein and Landdrostdreef.
Over the past year, NS, ProRail, and municipalities have created thousands of additional spots in the bike storage facilities to ensure that all bicycles can be parked safely. Almere Centrum station has also received two new bike storage facilities at Landdrostdreef and Busplein after the renovation.
Alderman Micha Mos (Almere, Mobility): “We are honored that ProRail and NS have chosen Almere as the starting point for their Posibike campaign this year. As a city, we are extremely happy with people who choose to travel to, from, and through our beautiful city by train and bike. At Almere Centrum station, we have two bike storage facilities with a total of 3,400 spots, where you can park your bike for free for the first 24 hours with a public transport card. This makes visiting our city easier and more enjoyable for visitors and for everyone already living in Almere.”
Kickoff in Almere
The campaign has started at Almere Centrum station. 15 other stations in the Netherlands are also participating. In September, campaign teams will give tips to travelers on how to park their bikes in the right places in the storage facilities. They will also distribute bike lights.
Abandoned Bikes
As part of the campaign, the municipality will clean up the storage facilities at the end of September. All bikes that have been left in the bike storage for too long or parked incorrectly will be removed. These abandoned bikes will be stored in Almere at the bike depot Esplanade. Some of these abandoned bikes will be refurbished and given to a good cause in December through City Deal, a collaboration between the Cyclists Union, NS, and the municipality of Almere.
