Mayor Hein van der Loo awarded two Almere residents the bronze medal of the Royal Society for the Rescue of Drowning Persons on November 28. The medal was presented to Maurice and Pascal Lammers for their courageous actions on June 27 this year.

On that day, a kayak capsized on the Noorderplassen, causing three people to fall into the cold water. An employee of restaurant Loetje saw the overturned kayak and heard cries for help. She immediately raised the alarm. Maurice and Pascal Lammers did not hesitate, ran outside, and jumped into the water to help the drowning victims. Thanks to their quick and decisive actions, all three victims were safely brought ashore.

Mayor Van der Loo expressed his appreciation during the ceremony: “These Almere residents have shown what our city stands for: caring for each other and acting when it matters. Their alertness and courage have been life-saving.”
The bronze medal is a distinction with a long tradition. The Royal Society for the Rescue of Drowning Persons awards it to individuals who have made exceptional efforts in saving drowning persons.
