The gathering ban is a measure to reduce nuisance at the shopping strip at the Meridiaan. Residents and entrepreneurs have been experiencing serious nuisance for a long time from a large group of youths and (young) adults. The neighborhood suffers from drug-related nuisance, noise disturbances, intimidating behavior, and harassment of passersby. Despite additional police and youth work being deployed, a camera installed, traffic measures taken, and stay-away orders issued, the nuisance kept recurring.
