Even in places where you might not immediately expect it, such as at an iconic location like the Koppelpoort, nature can find a place. The quays along the water here are steep and offer little opportunity for animals to get out of the water, rest, or build a nest. In the past, the Great Crested Grebe has attempted to breed here several times, but suitable spots are lacking. The island is meant to help with this. Step by step, we are working towards a city where animals and people have a beautiful and safe place and where biodiversity is strengthened.
