The enterococci bacteria previously found in the drinking water have disappeared. This is confirmed by multiple consecutive measurements. Therefore, the drinking water can be used without boiling again.

If no drinking water was used during the boil water advisory period, Vitens advises flushing the water for about one minute to properly clear the pipes.

What happened

Earlier this month, a routine quality check detected a slight bacterial contamination in part of the drinking water network and a storage cellar in Amersfoort. This bacteria is not normally present in drinking water and always comes from outside sources, such as leaks or high groundwater levels.

What was done

Vitens has taken the contaminated storage cellar out of service, cleaned and flushed the drinking water network, and collected samples at multiple locations, including homes. Clean results have been measured for several consecutive days at all measurement points. Therefore, the boil water advisory for approximately 84,000 connections has been lifted.

Investigation into the cause

Vitens is still investigating the exact cause of the contamination. More information will be communicated as soon as it becomes available.
