Worldwide, one in three women experience physical violence and 137 women die daily from violence by a family member, partner, or ex-partner. In the Netherlands, a woman dies every 8 days due to violence. Nearly 1 in 4 women in the Netherlands have experienced some form of sexual abuse or sexual violence.
Campaign Kickoff
On November 25, alderwoman Micheline Paffen-Zeenni opens the campaign period in Amersfoort. That day, the facade of Theater De Lieve Vrouw and the pylons on Hogeweg will be illuminated in orange. Currently, in more than 100 countries, buildings are lit orange during the campaign period to raise awareness of this issue.
We urge everyone to sign the #medestander pledge at www.orangetheworld.nl/de-medestander-pledge(link is external) to sign. This allows everyone to commit to fighting violence against women and girls. Posters are displayed throughout the city asking passersby to become allies as well.
