This makes the city safer and more livable, especially for cyclists and pedestrians. To manage this change effectively, the council has officially documented which roads will have their speed adjusted in traffic decisions. These new rules will take effect from January 30, 2026.
Adjustment Following Comments on Leusderweg
In June 2025, stakeholders could submit comments. A total of 34 responses (comments) were received. Most people requested that the speed be reduced to 30 km/h on even more roads.
There were many responses (12) specifically about Leusderweg. Therefore, a larger section of the road will be reduced to 30 km/h, starting from the Rondweg Zuid. The plans for the other roads remain unchanged.
The municipality is also investigating whether more roads could be suitable for lower speeds in the future, without causing significant traffic congestion. They are also looking into whether this can be applied to important bus routes.
What Changes at the End of January?
- On many roads, the speed will decrease from 50 to 30 km/h.
- On some roads, the speed will decrease from 80 to 60 km/h.
- There are also roads where the speed will decrease from 70 to 50 km/h.
What Happens Next?
- The traffic decisions were approved on September 23, 2025.
- They will be published in the Municipal Gazette on September 25, 2025.
- From that date, you can review them for 6 weeks and possibly appeal.
- The decisions and the note with responses will also be available on the webpage Plans in Procedure starting September 25.
At the end of 2025, the municipality will start a campaign to raise awareness among road users about the new speeds. This way, everyone can adjust their driving behavior in time.
