The Municipality of Amsterdam has purchased the ADM site in the Western Port Area for 165 million euros. The site has been owned by Larendael Participaties BV, the company of entrepreneur Wim Beelen, for the past few years.

Companies currently located in other parts of the port area will be able to move to the ADM site. On the spots they leave behind, Amsterdam can build thousands of new homes, including in the future district Haven-Stad.

Big step forward

Councilor Hester van Buren (Air and Sea Port): “I am incredibly happy that we have managed to purchase this enormous piece of land. Now that the site is once again part of Amsterdam, we can continue to solve the complex puzzle in the port area and build the new homes that are urgently needed in other locations.”

End of uncertainty

With the purchase, all legal conflicts between Amsterdam, the Port Authority, and Larendael have been resolved. Wim Beelen says about this: “Everyone is back at their starting point. The municipality has the land back. We have worked incredibly hard for 4 years, sometimes directly opposite each other, but the outcome is positive. The port benefits from a rehabilitated site with new quays.”

Rehabilitated site

During the period that Larendael was the owner, 20 hectares of land were rehabilitated, new land was created by filling in water, and quays were constructed.

New shipyard

The agreement stipulates that there will be space for a shipyard with a dock for yachts.

Future of the city

With the purchase of the ADM site, Amsterdam gains more space for business activities and housing. This represents an important step towards a city that is ready for the future.
